Important Tax Deadlines and Tax Rates

The Following includes a list of deadline dates that apply to Canadians. To avoid penalties you should mark these days on your calendar so they are not forgotten and missed.

Individual Income Tax Return for 2019 (T1 return) April 20, 2020
Individual who has self-employment income Payment date - April 30, 2020
Filing date - June 15, 2020
Corporate Income tax return (T2 return) Payment - 3 months after fiscal year end
Filing - 6 months after fiscal year end
Slips and Summary Information Filings:
T4/T4A Information Returns February 28, 2020
T5/T5 Summary February 28, 2020
T5018 Contractor Reporting (Construction Industry) 6 months after end of fiscal year
HST Remittances and Returns
Annual filers 3 months after the end of fiscal year
Monthly and Quarterly filers 1 month after the end of each reporting period
Individual annual reporters Payment must be made by April 30, 2020
Return must be filed by June 15, 2020
Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) A contributed to the RRSP made by February 28, 2020 would be considered deductible for 2019.
(Contribution cannot be made after the year a person reached the age of 71).
Trust Returns Returns must be filed within 90 days of the trust fiscal year end.
Deceased Taxpayer The deadlines for filing such returns is as following
  • Death January 1 to October 31 - Deadline is April 30 in the year following death
  • Death November 1 to December 31 - 6 months after date of death
